Reindeer Herd and Winter Fishing Experience

Experience the work of a reindeer herder and Finnish winter fishing on the same day!

Your day starts early in the morning. We’ll pick you up from Ivalo, such as from your hotel, and drive by car to the starting point of the activity. From there, we continue by snowmobile to the reindeer herd, where you’ll have the chance to take part in feeding the reindeer. After feeding, we head to a nearby lake where you can try traditional fishing methods. This activity includes lunch in the traditional Sámi hut in the wilderness.

A Day with Reindeer Herders

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a reindeer herder? We are local reindeer herders, and we invite you to join us in our daily work! Our journey starts early in the morning – we will pick you up from your accommodation and drive about half an hour to our starting point. From there, you’ll travel through the wilderness in a sleigh pulled by a snowmobile to reach the reindeer herd. You can take part in feeding the reindeer herd and learn about reindeer herding.

You can meet the reindeer and relax in a warm traditional Sámi hut, frying sausages and enjoying hot berry juice by the fire while waiting for the Northern Lights to appear.

Reindeer Visit

For this day adventure, we welcome you to our reindeer fence to visit the reindeer, grill sausages, and enjoy hot berry juice in the traditional Sámi hut in the fence. You will meet our home reindeer, over 20 of them, who stay in the enclosure to survive the winter. We’ll also share insights about reindeer herding and local culture. This activity is located next to Ivalo Airport, making it possible to enjoy a short visit before your flight!

Ice Fishing Trip

Try Finland’s most popular winter fishing activity: Ice Fishing! We’ll take you to a wilderness lake on a snowmobile sleigh, where we’ll teach you ice fishing. We’ll share the best tips for catching fish – but it’s still never guaranteed. During the trip, we’ll enjoy hot drinks and grill sausages over an open fire in the forest. And if you’re lucky to catch a fish, you can cook it over an open fire!

Kota Dinner

Book an unforgettable dining experience in a traditional kota! A three-course dinner, made from local ingredients, is prepared over an open fire in a traditional hut located right next to our reindeer fence. During the dining experience, you can also meet the reindeer and watch the sky for the Northern Lights! Come and discover the local culture and flavors of Lapland!

Wilderness Adventure by Snowmobile Sleigh

Experience the magic of untouched Arctic nature as you ride in a snowmobile-pulled sleigh to the edge of the Hammastunturi Wilderness Area. Take in the pristine silence, watch the sky for northern lights, and grill sausages and enjoy hot drinks on an open fire.
